I got married at City Hall last Monday He's leaving for 10 months in August to get his MBA in France, and he's Canadian, so we needed to start the paperwork on his green card asap. However, we want to throw a huge celebration next year. I'm looking at venues in Charleston, SC for October 2017. It's definitely overwhelming, even though the official, legal part of it is out of the way. I have no idea who to trust to help coordinate/plan, so I'm really just relying on myself and both of our likes/dislikes.
I did get a piece of advice from my sister who used to do event planning... She told me that, while everything is important, you should identify which things are MOST important TO YOU, and allocate extra effort & funds towards that. For example, I want a live band as opposed to a DJ. A really, really excellent band, and I'm willing to invite fewer people/not have a top-shelf liquor bar/etc. in order to make that happen.
