Is there some sort of push at Starbucks to get customers to customize/complicate their drinks or something? Because I've been ordering the same thing the same way since 1990 (the only change has been switching from grande to venti once the venti was introduced), and in the past month or so, the baristas have started asking me about numbers of pumps, splitting syrups, do I want half something-or-other, and all sorts of things that cause me to just kind of squint at them because I have no clue what they're talking about, especially since I haven't had my coffee yet, which is why I'm there. I don't think my order is that unusual, but maybe it is: Venti hazelnut mocha. Sometimes iced with an extra shot, and sometimes Frappucino with an extra shot, but those don't seem to get the "do you want x y z" stuff. It's when I just say the words "venti hazelnut mocha" that the questions that baffle me start.
And now I feel like someone's great-grandfather yelling about "just give me my damned black coffee! What the hell is a cap- cappa- caypoh- whatever the hell that says?"
ETA: In unrelated news, is there anything more adorably dopily snuggly than a black critter who has been dozing in the sun? I don't think so. Between the sun hitting the dark fur and the still-sleepy grogginess, I could hug this guy all day.
