Disclaimer: I haven't used any of this yet with the exception of the lip balm, so this is just first thoughts.
Well, I received my package today. As far as first impressions go, I'm not really sure what to say. It came in a priority mail envelope and nothing leaked. There was a seal on the body wash, the lip balm was shrink wrapped, and the salt scrub scoops in a plastic container were sealed with what appears to be washi. Two soap samples were included in the scents Salty Mermaid and Sea Goddess. They both smell really good, but nothing to go nuts over. Maybe a little bit generic? Still good though. The salt scrub scoops smell nice on first sniff, but I smell something else in there that throws it off. I can't even put my finger on it to type out the smell. It has to be one of the oils (coconut oil, palm oil, safflower oil). The lip balm seems to be wearing well. I've had it on about 45 minutes and I can still feel it. It's not heavy, but it's packed full of oils (mango butter, macadamia oil, coconut oil, candelilla wax, jojoba oil, castor oil, stevia, flavor oil), so it's highly susceptible to melting. It's a little bit weird in that it has stevia in it, so it's really sweet. It doesn't taste bad at all and it actually smells pretty good. Just like coconut, but not fake coconut.
I am dying trying to get this all out in a way that doesn't make me sound like a picky asshole. I hate the packaging. There, I said it. It's not the containers themselves, but more so the labels. I've spent almost half an hour staring at the labels on the website and comparing them to what's on my bottles. Mine are all yellowed. Which doesn't make me want to put the things on my skin. It just looks like they've been sitting there for quite some time. They're yellowed and smudgy...like dirty labels. I'm also conflicted about my scrubs being sealed with washi. That's a new one for me.
I buy things with nice presentation. If I saw these on a shelf I wouldn't purchase them. I guess I'm looking at this like, if this little thought went in to the packaging, how much thought went in to the products themselves? Packaging is the easier part of the equation. Someone saw this and didn't think anything was wrong with it? Ugh, I'm going to try these out and maybe I'll love them. I'm not excited about it though. I feel kind of disappointed. I'll do a follow up and let you all know what I think after I try them.
