Holy crap how did I miss this thread for two years??
Sorrynotsorry for liking and bookmarking a bunch of people's super old posts.
About sugar on raw tomatoes: I grew up doing that and my whole extended family does it, and we're not even a little bit Chinese. I thought it was a midwestern thing, like casseroles or non-salad salads (ham salad, dorito salad, jello salad). It weirded me out so much the first time I heard that people put salt on their tomato slices. Probably just an old people thing.
Also strongly disagree with everyone who said bacon and syrup shouldn't mix. That is a match made in heaven.
About ricotta: I grew up with cottage cheese only/never ricotta in lasagna, and I prefer that or a blend * in lasagna *. Ricotta on its own doesn't have quite enough texture. In general, in life, though... ricotta is one of my favorite foods of all the foods that have ever existed. I can and have and will continue to just eat it plain straight from the tub. It's so damn good and creamy and rich, it's like savory frozen custard. Also good with sweet stuff, like lemon curd + ricotta on pancakes or waffles.
