I was always taught that if an item you are selling is legit, you SHOULD NOT have to invest any of your own money into a "start-up". That what the COMPANY is there for. It makes me highly uncomfortable and icky to see people putting $7-$10k into the brands on the idea that they will earn it back, plus more. Maybe SOME do, but that's never going to be the case for everyone.
Similar but different field - I have a FB friend who is going crazy selling Lipsense. As in, if you don't buy into her Lipsense/Senegence cult, you are unfriended. She also happens to be highly vocal in the anti-vaxx movement.
So, I took a peek at the ingredients in some of the products she was shilling. HOLY SHIT. The NUMBER ONE ingredient in Lipsense is alcohol! NO wonder it burns and flakes your lips (they call it "exfoliating"). I looked at the foundation she pushes - Makesense foundation (which is FIFTY DOLLARS by the way). Parabens, silicones, alcohol... wtf. I checked the ingredents of my MOST QUESTIONABLE foundation, L'Oreal Pro Glow... VERY similar ingredients (but no parabens/addition of bht, yuck), on a $12 foundation.
Seriously, these business are nothing short of cults. It's crazy. I couldn't believe that someone who is do determined to "educate" us about vaccinations had no idea what is in the cosmetics she is putting on her skin, and wearing for hours at a time.
